Caminito del Rey is one of Andalucía’s most famous outdoor attractions and a truly unforgettable experience for visitors staying on the Costa del Sol. Originally built more than 100 years ago for workers maintaining the hydroelectric system in the area, the path has been completely restored into a safe and scenic walking route suspended along the steep walls of the spectacular Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge.

The route is around 7–8 kilometres long and takes approximately 2.5 to 4 hours depending on your pace and photo stops. Along the way you walk on narrow wooden boardwalks attached to the cliffs, cross bridges high above the river and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of mountains, lakes and dramatic rock formations. The final hanging bridge is especially impressive and one of the most photographed spots in Andalucía.

Because visitor numbers are limited, it is highly recommended to book tickets in advance, especially during weekends and holiday periods. Comfortable walking shoes, water and sun protection are strongly recommended, particularly during the warmer months. Many visitors combine the trip with nearby white villages or the beautiful lakes around Ardales, making it an excellent full-day excursion from Marbella, Estepona or Málaga.
