Hidden in the countryside near Casares, Baños de la Hedionda is one of Andalusia’s most fascinating natural bathing spots. Famous for its sulfur-rich thermal waters and Roman history, the baths have attracted visitors for centuries who come to enjoy the relaxing mineral water and the peaceful natural environment.

According to local legend, even Julius Caesar is said to have visited the baths for their healing properties. The historic stone bath structure still stands today, creating a unique atmosphere where history and nature come together. The sulfur water has a distinctive smell, but many people believe the minerals are beneficial for the skin and body.

Beyond the historic bath itself, the surrounding area offers beautiful river pools, small waterfalls, and scenic walking trails through the Andalusian countryside. During warmer months, visitors can swim in the natural pools along the river while enjoying the peaceful setting away from the crowded beaches of the Costa del Sol.

The baths are located only a short drive from San Luis de Sabinillas, Casares Costa, and Manilva, making them an excellent half-day excursion for visitors looking to discover a different side of southern Spain. Comfortable shoes are recommended, especially if exploring the nearby trails and river paths.

Whether you are interested in Roman history, natural wellness, hiking, or simply relaxing in a unique environment, Baños de la Hedionda offers an unforgettable experience surrounded by nature and Andalusian scenery.
